1982 copper penny lg date it looks like a possibile date error ... It looks to me like there was a 1 stuck under the 2 .....so I brought it over here to see if anyone had a opinion on this coin.......and I noticed Lincoln eye was closed..
I don't see anything there that looks like a 1. And if you did somehow have a 2/1 the 1 would be at the front edge of the 2. The only way to have a 2/1 would be for it to be a DDO with one hubbing from a 1981 hub and one from a 1982 hub. In that case the 198 would be pretty much lined up with each other exactly. Now look at the spacing between the 1 & 9, and the 9 & 8. Got to the right of the 8 that same spacing and that is where the 1 would be, at the same place the left edge of the 2 is.
Could it be a ddo and be doubling of the 2 and I know that some collectors still collect them but they don't have no significant but could it be considered a BIE error and why are Lincoln eye close ... Is the any other pennies that has been struck in the 1970s or 1980s era.....or would that be considered a rare strike........
That is not a doubled die or an over date, sorry. A variety like that would have been found and published long ago. And, a BIE involves a die chip between the letters BE in Liberty, has nothing to do with the date. A little reading on how dies are made and how coins are struck would help you greatly. You can then learn how to disregard obvious things like deteriorated die strikes, post mint damage etc.
@paddyman98 has posted a great jpg in the past to help describe what a BIE is (and an IIB, EIR, RIT, etc). I've saved it off and referenced it often while hunting (and describing) chips... https://www.cointalk.com/threads/1956cent-bie.390175/#post-8088831
