Zaneman the definition of VF-20,at least half of the lower and upper incused lines on the rim of the bell must show.Plus It can't be proof-65 because the hair doesn't even show all the way. B12
Business or Proof? My first reaction to your photo was "its a proof", the photo does not do any justice to the coin if so. Just a suggestion, because grading a coin is hard to do via a picture, give us some details about any marks, lines or wear that may not come out in your photo.
I scoured this coin with a 10x bausch and lomb loupe, and can't find a single scratch on the coin. All specs seen are due to dust on the scanner. I'm thinking about having it slabbed, but am not sure, as I am terrible at grading.
I'm gonna say PF64 - but I wanna ask you a question Zane. Did you buy the coin individually or did you take it out of a Proof set ? I'm asking because I think I see the remains of a fingerprint on the reverse ( at the bottom ) and I think the coin was wiped in an effort to try and remove fingerprints on both sides. But even if I'm wrong - I wouldn't spend the money to have it slabbed. Even if it came back graded as PF65 it is only worth about $30.
It's definitely not a fingerprint, I'm pretty sure anyway, as I pulled it out of a proof set, and I haven't touched it, except by the rims, and I had nitrile gloves on.
Yes, there are dust underneath the glass, and definitely fingerprints underneath, I find the problem with scanners, is that it's hard to show details with shiny coins. I have some vouchers to get coins graded for free, so I'm just gathering up some stuff to get graded. I have some liberty caps that I think I will get graded instead of franklins.
Proofs are My Favorites Zaneman I collect a lot of proofs from 1964 thru 1950. I have original packaging as well as break sets. I perfer the break outs because I can see the best in the coin. If you come across a "cameo or deep cameo" Franklin Proof that is perfect to your eye, that would be the one to have slabbed/graded. PR65, in my mind is average maybe sub-average for a well kept proof. Food for thought.
