Hello all! I have been trying to check the value of these coins but I have been unable to find much. I don't plan on selling them because I am pretty sure they will increase in value by a good amount over the years, but it would be nice to know what they are worth anyway. It is an unopened bag of the original German euros. These were the bags that were offered when the switch was made from the Mark to the Euro. The bags were given to the banks to be made available to the public. You would go to the bank and trade your Marks in for the new Euros. This was the first minting ever of the German Euros available to anyone. My grandfather lives and Germany and owns several banks there so he was able to get me one of the bags when they first came out. The coins are in the original bag, never opened. It contains a face value of around 20 Euros. Any clue as to the current value? Do you guys think this is something that will increase significantly in value over time? Thanks!
 first welcome to ct and i hope you injoy. As in german coins they had a lot more mintage than most. You need to take them from the bag and put them in 2x2. If you leave them in the bag there going to get bag marks. Allso the cent's will damage the rest of the coin's. As to value i cant help. But someone will come along and tell you more. Dave
eurocoins.co.uk had them but are sold out. 20 coins with a face value just a bit over 10 Euros. Here is a Copy & Paste of their collector price: German Euro Starter Pack - Sold Out - £19.95 - $29.95 - €32.50
These bags or "starter kits" were issued in mid-December 2001; you would pay 20 DM and get the equivalent in euro (€10.23). Initially those starter kits were pretty popular among collectors, but there is not much demand any more, I think. The current issue of the Schön catalog lists them at €16 - which is still a little more than the face value. Now opening the bag (and putting the single coins in holders) would indeed prevent further damage such as scratches. Problem is, you then have several raw coins which would be worth about face ... (Edit) Just checked the latest issue of MünzenRevue. They say a starter kit is "worth" 18 to 20 euro. Note that these prices are not what you can expect if you want to sell one, but rather what you would have to pay. Christian
