http://cgi.ebay.com/1869-US-2-Cent-...oryZ3356QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I'm getting close to completing my set of 2¢ pieces and that's a tempting piece aside from the spots. How would you guys assess the grade of the coin in light of the spots?
I claim no expertise on US coins in general, or two-centers in particular, but I think your question has a built in answer. Do you really want to finish up your collection with a piece that you have to describe as "nice, aside from . . . "?
It's price is about right for a MS-60, so you could fill the hole for now and resell it or trade it in at your coin dealer when you find a better one.
Hi, I think the spots are scary. I think it is the beginnings of what will turn into serious corrosion. An MS60 should go for around $150.00. I'd wait for another example. If you buy at $150.00, the spots will make it tough to sell. Just my thoughts, Bill
I would wait on another one. You can pick one up without the spots for about the same money by waiting. Also, I agree with the comment about a past cleaning... especially evident on the reverse.
