I wanted to reply to the thread so I could follow what the guys that read diagnostics say. I would be surprised if this one isn't an 18/17.
Sure looks like the top of a 7. I think I'd spend the money to have it authenticated. Is it yours, or are you looking to buy it?
The diagnostic for lower grades is a die clash next to her right knee (our left) that looks like an E. I’m not sure whether mine is or not, but I think it looks like it has it. It’s best visible in the first picture if you zoom in. Just got it in the mail today! Was worried I was going to get a look alike or something but it’s the same coin that was in the pictures. I’m going to wait for a couple more opinions before I send it off but you make me optimistic!
I'm a bit pessimistic -- that remaining upper hole in the 8 looks too symmetrical, and I've never been able to reliably see the left-of-knee diagnostic. If it were mine, I'd send it to ICG with the CT special, or maybe ANACS. I sure can't rule out that it's the overdate.
You could be right. It could also be the angle I took that picture at. It looks less circular from the other side, but I don’t really know for sure. Caused by wear potentially? This one is a graded example that doesn’t look too far off
I think you have it! Can you post an image of the reverse as well? The obverse appears to have the clashed E at the correct position and the Mint mark appears to be in the correct place. The bottom of the 8 is pretty strong right to the rim. If it was not the overdate, the bottom opening of the 8 would be visible.
If you really think it is you should take it to your LCS and get their opinion. You can always send it in for grading to make sure but I just can’t tell from the photos.
Yeah, well, don't count your money, just yet, because no one is going to bid it as an 8/7 like that. Get it attributed, then count.
Undoubtedly! But for $35 I feel like I’m doing alright even if it isn’t one. It’s probably going to ANACS tomorrow or Monday, fingers crossed!
I’m assuming you have some experience with ANACS, do I need to pay extra for variety attribution? I believe with NGC it’s free, and that got me all confused lol
I wish you best of luck! The wear in critical areas prevent a positive ID for me. I have seen several in the past that were close but not. They however will have the coin in hand, rather than photos. Jim
