Here are two "raw" Morgans an 81-S and a 82. What grade would you figure they'd receive if I were to send them into ANACS. Why, ANACS you ask, well their holders are small and a few other intangibles based upon personal preference.

Iam like you, I like the smaller holders!!!!!Maybe you should wait untill you get a least 10 coins or more to send for a group price??if they do that.

    I'm going to say

81-S MS63 but maybe MS64...the lower part of the cheek did it...too bad too the back it great--but---1881 was known for a good strike---so take that into the grading.

    82 MS63---

I'd say MS63 for the '81-S - that's because this particular coin is known for being found with excellent strike, luster and surface preservation.

The '82 I'd say AU58. It appears to have just a touch of wear on the hair and bonnet. It could be the pics - if I saw the coin in hand and it was not wear then I would say MS63 based on details. But I would expect any but ANACS to return this coin ungraded because of the damage to left wing on the reverse.

I'd say 63 for the 81-S and 62/scratch for the 82. I'd keep them both raw -- does not make much sense to spend $15 to slab a $25 coin (the 81-s) or a $10-$15 coin (the 82).

WOW---for the past few days when I give a grade on a coin more times then before I seem to be getting it right.....
Its pretty nice to have a expert agree with the grade I give ;)

Speedy I truly appreciate the vote of confidence - but I'm no expert, far from it. I only know enough to know how much I have yet to learn.

But I will readily say - you're gettin pretty good kiddo ;)
