Here is a pretty clean 82-CC Morgan. What would it receive if you were the grader?

And an 84-CC GSA. I think this one is MS-61PL or a stretch for a MS-62PL

    I think the 82 CC could get a MS63.

I think this one could get a 62. But it's hard to judge the PL from pics. Have you tested the reflectivity Bone ? In other words - if you can see printed text reflected in the coin's fields at a distance of 2 to 4 inches well enough that you can read it, then it is Proof Like.

Thanks, I'll check that out. I was just going by what our dealer in town said when I showed it to him a couple of years ago. I'll have to pop it out of the plastic holder it's in. That one smudge on the left reverse and a lot of the little nicks shown on the reverse are from the plastic.

All in all I thought the reverse looked pretty good - it would go 64 easy. It's the obverse that holds the grade down - all the luster breaks on the cheek and the fields in front of the face. With just a few less marks in those areas - the coin would go 64 overall.

Your talking about the 82? The 84 was in the bottom of the 1K bag I can tell you that for sure, and dragged around quite a bit it seems. LOL

I was talking about the '84 - suffered a brain cramp and completely forgot there were 2 coins here

In my opinion the '82 is a solid 64.

Now that one I don't understand....the face and cheek....aren't those bag marks or is it just the photo???....if it is just the photo then I would go up with the grade I said....

The marks on the cheek appear to be very few & minimal to me. It's the marks behind the head, even though they are in a secondary area, that would keep me from saying 65 for that coin.

    That sounds right ;)
Thanks for helping me see that....

    That's a beauty bone,
I bought mine because I wanted a GSA but naturally,I got the most common date, 1883.
Would anyone care to help me grade it? I have NO idea.
I posted the small pic so you can see the true color.

    MS62
the reasons...the jaw and marks in front of the face---

    Proof Like...

A coin is Uncirculated untill there is wear on the coin...the coin has no wear...it has bag marks...so I graded it a low MS...As you can see GDJMPS graded it MS64 and I would trust his grading over mine anyday.
Alot of it goes into eye appeal...

Are you talking about the 1884 piece because that photo shows clearly a lot of marks and scratches on the left and on the face of liberty. He said it was dragged around a 1 kg bag. I'm completely lost at what your refering to.

PL stands for proof -like,seems kind of arbitrary if you ask me,but those are some
    very attractive morgans.
