I am looking at buying Coin Trays to allow me to have easy access to my collection. So far I am looking at trays by SAFE. I am looking at the following from SAFE; NoVa Coin trays for my non silver coins. For my silver coins I am thinking about the NoVa exquisite trays. Because I would like to keep several of the NoVa exquisite trays on my desk in my office for display. If its presentation your after, that wood case was supreme. Are your coins going to be in airtights or are they slabbed? If not id worry about wood and coins...seem to recall somebody mentioning here that storing coins in wood is a no no. The lighthouse (tm) and air-tite (tm) holders are nice holders, but like slabs are not really air tight. If they were stored in any thing but wood and velvet ( or any cloth or cardboard), I would think they might not be compromised. If your turn over time is less than 6 months or year, I doubt there would be any effect. Longer than that, or closed containers might show some toning, and maybe that wouldn't be a bad thing. IMO. I would do it, and if problems occur, sell them. Jim
Never use those and never will. Not necessarily due to any problems, just not practical as far as I can see. Now if your a coin dealer and just want to show them in a shop or somewhere, nice presentation cases. But for storage, not to practical. Cases like those and those trays are exessively bulky and if you ever plan on putting your coins in a safe deposit box. you would really need a monster of a box for those. And for around a house, not to smart. One dealer I know just had one of those cases full of coins wander off from his home. Really easy for a crook to see them and then poof, gone. As to the notation that storing a coin in a wooden container could be true pending the wood and it's age. Some woods such as Cedar are great for the seapage of thier gasses which makes them so good at keeping out insects and a nice odor for people to enjoy but not to good for coins. Also, the linings on those drawers would have to be authenticated as to no harmfull materials for coins. Most of them are really nice for looks but the expense to have something not practical for me is just not practical.
