Would this get a higher grade if sent in?

On Greysheet, there's only a $50 difference between PF-65 and PF-66; $390 to $440. I don't think it's worth going for an upgrade economically even if I thought it would make it, which I don't.

I have never seen Larry overly interested, much less obsessed, in the dollar aspects of coins. From his recent posts, it looks like he's just re-evaluating some of the older holdings in his collection and asking our opinions.

It's a beautiful coin. I would not waste the money on a re grade. Would be proud to have it just the way it is!

I'd leave it in the slab but consider submitting to CAC - a green or gold bean on there would be nice.

It's a solid 65 but as others have noted the mark on the reverse will not allow a higher grade. I used to have an 1867 DCAM 3CN that I thought looked undergraded at 64 but after noting a few minor blemishes I figured it would never grade higher even though it was a lovely DCAM.

I'd concur with the majority to leave it as-is. It could upgrade but I think there is not enough upside to try. If you needed to sell, there should be plenty of interest due to the eye appeal of the coin combined with the older holder.

Larry, I apologize for offending you -- that was certainly not my intent. In my experience, those who nitpick at minute grade-differences and value TPG's opinions more than their own are more interested in the $$$ that the coin represents than they are in the item of beauty in their hand.

it is a Proof ONLY date. The older green-border label is better than a newer 66.

It's lovely. A 65 seems good enough from my perspective and the slab is cool. If I was seeking this I would likely prefer it as is to a new slabbed 66. That's just me.

Leave it aloooone. Toning is good, grade is nice, very enjoyable to look at as-is. Thanks for sharing.

You have two questions so, here are my answers. As for the slab making any difference in its value, NO. The slab is there for protection and preservation only.

In regards to whether resubmitting the coin could possibly receive a better grade, I would be on the side of possibly not. In the time since this coin was graded, new technologies and grading guidelines have been revised and the coin that was graded a 65 could possibly be graded lower of something is spotted now during a regrading. Maybe not yet, I wouldn't want to chance it as anything could happen.

So, leave it the way it is and enjoy is reverence as is and believe that this is the best it will ever be and it is great. Good luck.

Solid for the grade but no upgrade. I like the old ngc holder too. Maybe try for a bean or otherwise leave alone
