When I saw this coin at the bottom of the hole, I thought it was gold, but reality slapped me badly..

You're not the only one. Years ago, I bought the same type (though much more worn), believing it was gold. I sold it later, and the buyer told me he believed it was a gold coin as well (despite me stating it wasn't).

I have a Gordian of this type that is very brassy too and looks gold. It’s interesting that the metal type used for Gordian seems to have changed from the darker bronze used for the earlier and common Elagabalus and Severus Alexander coins of the same type.
