Coin Talk T-Shirt Design ?? If the Moderators came up with a design by holding a contest for that design..the sales of the T-shirts would aid in supporting this fourm...I for one would buy one or more and knowing that this helps me in so many ways by providing hours of on-line fun, knowledge sharing and meeting folks like yourselves that share in this rich historical hobby...any other votes out there for something like this?

RickieB :D Looking for ways to support this site..suggestions wanted!

I donated 20 dollars yesterday. It really is not that much money compared to the hours that I used this site. It was not a hard thing to do. Just scroll down the main page and there is a button to make a pen pal donation. All of us past and present e-bay buyers most likely already have accounts so it really only takes a matter of minutes to do.

As for the tee-shirt, I think it is a great idea. We seem to have some pretty impressive artists that are members of this site and most clubs and organizations not only have dues but also sell shirts for its members to wear with pride. This is not a formal club but then again no one here has to pay for gas to drive to this site and we can enter this site whenever we want or can.

I think a good idea to support the site would to be have a raffle. Everyone who is willing could send some coins to one of the moderators, and then people could buy raffle tickets to win the coins, and I guess the cost of the tickets could depend on the value of the coins submitted. I think that would be a good fundraiser.

I have a 64-ish Morgan or two waiting for such a raffle. Nothing huge, but nice to own.

Another idea is for individual members to auction off items with the proceeds going directly into CT's paypal account. Stujoe's website has done something to this effect and sent proceeds to areas of need...the tsunami relief comes to mind, although I haven't been online in a while to see what else has been going on at the various sites.

Individual members can post a coin or coins for auction in the Advertising section, state a starting bid and end time. All bids take place in that individual thread (I think if bidders can see the competition they're probably willing to bid a bit more as opposed to handling it only through PM's) When it's complete the buyer makes his payment directly to the CT paypal account and the seller mails off the coin/s once paypal notification is received from Peter.

I know I've participated in these types of auctions on Stujoe's site and it's great fun...also an easy way for some of us to 'clean house' so-to-speak, without dealing with the hassles of ebay.

    Peter...would this be a possibility??

A great idea in nature, but in the end some hidden problems. The first that comes to my mind is that with people knowing the moderators address, and the amount of non-registered users (some who are not as honest and with unscroupulous intentions) i think the formula adds up to alot of spam and/other disruptive junk littering mailboxes. Whatever could be done would have to be done with the moderators protection, and Peters, kept in mind as well.

The raffle idea is a great one tho :p

It's actually pretty easy, in practice. The recipient creates a dedicated email addy to attach to a Paypal account, for those interested in that payment. A trusted volunteer with access to a P.O. Box serves as the point of contact for snail-mail payments. As part of the cost of donation, each donor agrees to cover the cost of shipping and insurance (and considers this cost in the decision of what to donate). At the raffle's completion all the donors drop-ship to whoever won, and only the coordinator of the raffle ever has access to any more than one address.

This can easily be done with no participation at all by the beneficiary of the raffle, to avoid any seeming conflict of interest. Especially here, there are senior members who have a business stake in the hobby this site is dedicated to - they have considerable reputations more important than the value of the raffle - who can be trusted to run things cleanly and neatly. I'll bet one would step up if this idea became more concrete.

I am glad to be here and will do whatever I can to help out.

I will take a t-shirt in XL but I want it to be Charcoal or Navy in color.

    BJG <--- picky, isn't he?
