Not to be disingenuous here, but I have heard tell that sulphur is a "good" way to clean coins - makes them "shiny" again. And yes, those photos look exactly like the color of sulphur....
I think some of the flack your receiving is because of your inability to provide any further details to support your claims. This may be no fault of your own, but it creates suspicions. It has been suggested to post your larger pictures in the gallery. This is different from posting it in a thread and allows you to post larger images. The gallery can be reached from the main title bar. Once there just click on "upload" (upper right hand side of page) and let us know when the larger images are posted. Doing so may help reduce the criticism. Either way, I'm looking forward to your images of the coin once it is graded by ANACS.
The small photos show an unnatural gleam to the coin. A gleam consistent with plating. Of course, it could be a genuine error that was dipped, but I'm not optimistic.
Ill just wait till it comes back from gradeing,I dont have it now to try bigger photos, I do understand everyones concerns, I feel its off-metal (and others)and we'll wait& see......
Good Luck Getting This Coin Slabbed As Anything Other Than A Normal Weight, Normal Metal Composition, 1906 Ihc! In Fact They May Not Slab This Coin At All, For Environmental Damage & Or Other Alteration Of The Coin's Natural Color! High Expectations May End Up Causing Great Dissapointment! If This Coin's Anything Other Than A Reg. Ihc, I'll Eat My Hat& The Indian's Head Dress Too!!!
will be anxious to learn how things turn out with the IHC!! KEEP ME POSTED, & GOOD LUCK TO YOU!! B.Q.
that depends on what you are cleaning. If you use sulfur on a copper coin, it will most likely catalyze the formation of copper oxide.
I'm gonna wait for a final result if in fact the coin was sent to ANACS for an evaluation. Hopefully coins2 understands the reluctance on the part of some of us to accept this at face value. In reading through the posts, I am struck by the fact that anything that asks for a better picture has a reason why it can't be done. He can't send scans to anyone because for some reason it doesn't work. He can't post a larger picture here or in the gallery for some strange reason. We can only see a little picture that gives us very little detail to work with. Earlier I posted a "readjusted" photo using the original photo( I added color tones back to the picture and recreated an aproximation of what I feel is the correct color for this cent. After having read a few good mysteries in my time, I look at clues along the way to figure out what the situation really is. I am usually right on the money. (Good Pun, HuH )? Anyway, My gut tells me that we are indulging this coin to death and that it is not real. I could be wrong, but I don't think so. I've seen this kind of thing on other groups. Doctored scans are posted and then there is a huge debate over something phony that turns out to be a waste of time. I will firmly plant myself in the corner of "I won't believe it until I see it" Have Fun, Bill
Okay guys, let's cool it. We're getting too close to a flame war for comfort. 2coins knows how we feel, and we know what he says, so until he posts the results of his submission - if ever, any further discussion is just a rehash. Please let this thread go dormant until and unless those submission results appear.
Thanks Roy,Iam not a photo wizard and wont post a newer one, its not here with me!!Ill EAT-CROW! if it comes back other wise, thanks everyone for you support......
Well someone is going to eat crow. I've publicly said that I will if he's right, and he says he will if he's wrong. It will be interesting to see who's going to dine.
I'm curious as to whether or not there has been any update on the status of this particular coin. Anyone know?
That's up to 2coins, isn't it? Depending on the category of service he paid for in submitting it, even he may not know for another couple of months.
I think he went with the month service but it should have been back by now and printed in CW...... If he sent it the cheap way I think it will be about another month or two before he gets it back... Hey AJ--Hadn't seen you in awhile. Speedy
Hi Speedy, It came back the other day from the graders,They stated mint damage. So I took a file to the edge to see if it was brass or other, it was copper, so everyone was right, it was plated some how years ago. Ill eat my crow roasted, thankyou. You just never know on some coins............. :goof:
