I'm at AU58 and don't care a fig or a feather if it's been "cleaned" or not. In what would be the blue field of the national crest, the lines are razor-sharp. And if the coin had been cleaned (merciful heavens!!), those horizontal lines would most likely not have the dark (filth?) schmutz between them. All of the above IMHO.
Like others, I suspect some form of cleaning, but I also agree that it would likely land somewhere in the AU 55 - 58 range, though possibly with "details" attached. It's always hard judging from photos, of course. But a nice coin in any case. I have a single 1914 D Barber 25¢, NGC MS 62 - I didn't used to care for the Barber design, but seeing higher grade examples made me change my mind over time. I'm a convert and this is now one of my favorite coins in my pile.
@Morgandude11 I'm late to your posting, but I concur with some of the comments that the coin has been dipped in an effort to remove toning and/or gunk in the protected areas; the dipping itself didn't alter the surfaces (still a lot of luster), but it does make it obvious to experienced graders that the coin has been "cleaned", and as such, IMO it would get an AU (AU53 due to the number of scrapes in the prime focal area) Details grade. It is however a nice coin--enjoy it!
