That's very interesting. There was a huge change in the design between 1972 and '73. An obverse picture might help. It seems unlikely that such a mistake could be made when there's a big difference but the photo is interesting. The damage in front of the 2 seems to suggest this might be an artefact of the same damage.
I'll invoke a question that comes up on VAMWorld now and then when someone posts something that's improbable. "Did you poke it with a stick?" By which I mean that sometimes things that look like die breaks, overdates, cuds, strange clashes, etc., are really dirt, glue, occluded gas, or laminations. A quick jab with a rose thorn can often answer these questions.
Well just sos happens i have a thorn i use and i dont remember if i have or not beimg ive had this 4 ever... will poke w a stick... and ill call it a name or 2 for good measure
Oh and another clue might be that the other digits look recut to the north!!! Look above the 7 ^ Sorry it appears to be a hook under/in front of the 3 for those not seeing it and it resembles the bottom of a 2 to the south as well
Ok, I see a small anomaly under the top of the three, but with the damage to the seven directly lined up with it, I would suspect that the three is also just damage.
Without such a coin known it IS hard to conclude this one but its still a keeper obviously,, maybe.its.a madclash or some other weird error.... i wish it was mint state so we couldnt write it.off as pmd so easily
I know it's a little late in the game, but did you ever find anything out about your 73 Quarter? I ask because just today I found one that us Identical to this last photo, with the little raised line barely peeking out from under the bottom of the top curve of the 3. This is the only pertinent result I received from Google. Any update would be great. I've only just taken a quick sec to scan my change from this morning and haven't taken photos yet. Will later depending on what I hear back, if anything. Thanks in advance-Karen

Thank you. Okie doke. Sorry. I am also having trouble with uploading photos. Maybe will figure it out with a new posting.
There is no 3 over 2 variety for a 1973. It's called Pareidolia. Dirt, stains or damage can cause it to look like something it's not.
