This awesome piece was floating around e-bay for some time. I have an MS-62 yet I believe this is a nicer piece in an old PCGS holder. I threw in what I felt was a lowball bid and ... I won. These are very hard to find nice as this piece given the circulation issues with a low mintage of 6,000. It arrived safely today and seems to have some mirror like fields. Year: 1869 Canton: Zug Catalog Richter-1671b, Martin 990, Krause 339 Design: Bovy Theme: 5 Francs Schützenfest in Zug Diameter: 37mm Grade: PCGS MS-61 Mintage: 6,000
You lucky SOB, I was watching that auction, but the price got way too rich for me. However a few days later I was able to win a Bern Shooter to keep my St Gallen Company. NICE COIN!!
I have not received the Bern yet, the only pic I have of the St Gallen is in my avatar. I will post better pics when I get the Bern.
BTW - this MS-61 tops my MS-62 and has reflective surfaces. I may take the risk and crossover to NGC as it may have upside.
Zohar, in my opinion NGC may give this an MS-62 or even a MS-63. Especially if you crack it out of the PCGS holder first. Feeling lucky? I haven't found a Schutzenfest medal that I need on eBay for ages. One day though I expect someone will auction off their entire Holy Freres collection and I'll have to take out a second mortgage. It will be worth it! PS - My wife may disagree...
Those are some very nice coins.. Outstanding additions to any collection. (If you ever get tired of them feel free to send them all to me......or not).
