I remember going up to your floor once, (around corner, enter church, etc), and was actually able to kind of impress the big guy with my knowledge of his library, Starr issues, etc. Like most great coin dealers, until you prove yourself that you are serious, they don't have time for you. I had met him before and got that impression.

Anyway, once he liked me, he showed me the most amazing stuff. FDC sestertii of Gordian I and II, and a water goblet from the royal silver of Phillip II, yep, the water cup Alexander the Great would have used growing up.

Atta boy Mike...... fulfilling a dream, and quite possibly, a destiny. It's not everyday that someone can hold a legacy of history in their hands. I'm glad to see that you grasped and held the coin properly......... devil.gif

Actually, I'd be interested if AFIS could pull a few finger prints off that coin but I doubt they'd be in the database. Who knows who could have held that piece?

I would almost always agree….but then, I consider the rarity of the gold version. Then consider the fact that most everyday Romans were outraged when Marc Antony displayed JC’s bloody toga, causing many of the conspirators to beat feet out of Roma. I would consider this aureus to have been given to one of the conspirators, who punched it and wore it as a badge of honour….well, until Augustus hunted him down……this particular coin, could arguably be THE most historically significant coin. Unless, of course, you feel it’s a forgery…..

Some of the voices in my head have been hopelessly corrupted by the devil-cult mantra ''condition, condition, condition". Others agree with you completely. ;)
