This is an 1892-O Type 1 Barber Quarter, which is the first year of issue for this series. Type 1 and Type 2 are described by NGC as follows: 1892 O TYPE 1 REV 25C The tip of the eagle's right wing (viewer's left) covers only half of letter E in UNITED, and most of the stars point downward. 1892 O TYPE 2 REV 25C The tip of the eagle's right wing (viewer's left) covers most of letter E in UNITED, and most of the stars point upward.
I notice the mintmark appears more centered than it does on an 1894-O I dug while detecting. The mintmark on that coin appears to be off to the right just a smidgen.
Where did you get this coin? I looked on Ebay for Barber quarters and the one that was reasonable and in VF condition looked cleaned. They wanted $23.50 for it.
I bought ether in an auction along with another Barber Quarter of the same year but different mint mark. 2,460,000 of these were minted. She’s in very nice shape and wasn’t costly at all.
One of the few series that I don’t have a lot of education on. I believe you may have just motivated me.
Thanks Randy. I like them but I finger I’m too old to start something new. But a younger guy like yourself.... I have to finish the albums I have started first.
