Ok, another guess the hammer thread. This 1879s Morgan, PCGS MS 68+ CAC is the finest for its date. It has a population of 1, with none better, and is one of the highest graded ever (there are a handful of 69s for other dates).

It is already up there, with 4 bids. How much higher will it go?

This is one, that if I had the means, I'd be a bidder on. It WOULD come home to me. But ,alas, I am not a PowerBall winner.

I'm not sure it would be worth it even if any of us had that much to spend. To me there are several things going against it:
    1) What looks like a fingerprint around the "BUS" of "Pluribus"
    2) The fact that it sold for under $6k as a 68 and is now upgraded to a 68+ (the plus doesn't seem worthy enough of that big of a jump in value on the same exact coin)
    3) It's a common enough date with a look that can be found on pieces graded MS 65 or MS 66 (that would carry a premium but would be a fraction of the final cost of this coin)

I've seen you post some stunning Morgans in 63-66 holders. I'd personally pick a handful of those before this 68+ Morgan (especially given the significant price difference).

LOL, that's exactly what I have been doing. I want the best looking coin for the grade at my budget. But, if I was PowerBall rich (Like several hundred million) then the price that this ends up going for is but a drop in the bucket. LOL

This is where it's not really rational coin collecting anymore, it's all about whose you-know-what is bigger. Get two of the "powerball" guys bidding on one of these top pop coins and who knows where it will end up.

Oh,I agree. The coin is a curiosity more than anything else. It is a near prooflike high grade common date Morgan that happens to have only one distinction. That is exclusivity, being the highest graded for its date, and population of 1. Would that be enough for me to want to buy it? Hell no—I tend to go for “highest grade for a good value with eye appeal.” I have posted many of my own 65, 66, and 67 Morgans that I paid 1/20th of what this thing is going to sell for. A perfect example is my MS 65 PL 1885cc that I had a GTG up, recently. It is as attractive as this coin, if not as high grade, and numerically exclusive. So, I posted this “guess the hammer” as a curiosity, rather than a numismatic definition of sanity. Bidder 1 and bidder 2 will probably drive the price of this thing crazy over the next 2 days.

wxcoin Getting no respect since I was a baby

The PCGS population report shows 15 at 68+. With the green bean I'll go $35K given the hot market right now.
