Just looked them up on the big auction site, they are a bit pricey.

@calcol it depends upon what grade your'e comparing, as some are Condition Rarities in in the higher grades; however, I will say in general the 1900 Lafayette Dollar, as most have been heavily dipped multiple times (a.k.a. the 1921 High relief Peace Dollar syndrome) and so straight graded coins command high prices.

Lafayette dollar is a classic commemorative, not a modern commemorative. My OP was strictly about prices in the 2022 Red Book.

Yes the 1996 D High jump is still up on top. Then compare it's mintage to some of the recent ones.
    96 D High jump 15,697
    96 D Wheelchair 14,497
    2019 American Legion 13,679
    2020 Womens suffrage 12,603
    2018 Breast cancer 12,526
    2017 Boys town 12,313
2022 Purple heart 12,066 (so far, still on sale)
    2021 Law Enforcement 9,426
2022 Negro League 7,491 (so far, still on sale)

Yep the high jump has the 8th lowest mintage among the Unc modern commemorative dollars.

I have problems understanding the price of the 2001 Buffalo, mintage of 227,131, 6th highest mintage. There are 15 or more buffalos for every one of the dollars I listed above.

Yeah, the BU commemorative dollars keep declining. I actually bought a Womens Suffrage, thinking it may (temporarily) take the top spot (it didn't) and was watching the Law Enforcement Museum but didn't bite.

I suspect both the 2022 issues will sell better than either of the above but who knows?

I didn't start collecting until 2009, so I missed a lot that are referenced. I went wild with the Apollo coins and other things. The coin that I really like is the 2021 American Liberty 2021 High Relief Gold Coin. I also like that I bought a few years after it was released is the MMIX High Relief One Ounce Gold Coin. Sadly, I had it reviewed by PCGS and it came back an MS68.

That coin was a real disappointment to me. I wound up selling it to buy more 'classic commems'. :)

I'll buy the $1 as long as they are close to melt

The price is perfectly understandable when we consider that there are probably a lot more than 15 collectors who want a 2001 Buffalo for every collector who wants an Olympic high jump commemorative. A classic design like that will always be in high demand.

The High Jump dollar is one that has gently cancelled dies available, no?

Yes, particularly the Gold. The 97s MS 70 and PR 70 coins are going for $500 each.

I had asked earlier if it was just the coin or graded as well and never got an answer so whatever, but I'm pretty sure the 97s are down in the $300-400 ranges now. It'd definitely a very different list from the 70s and just the issue itself
