Check out this 54-S Roosevelt. it was in a mint set I was moving to a new book. and I found this fang
This isn't my focal area of collecting... however, that said: I have never heard of a Bugs Bunny for a dime. The only Bugs Bunny that I have heard of is the Franklin Half. And it is my understanding that the Franklin Half was due to no blank being in the press while the obverse and reverse dies clashed. CheetahCats
The "Bugs Bunny" half is really a die clash. The obverse and reverse dies struck each other with no planchet between them. Mint employees worked the dies to remove evidence of the die clash. However they didn't fix the area around Franklins upper lip. It looks like his two front teeth are large and protruding. They are made by the wing tips of the small eagle from the reverse. There most commonly found on the 1955 dated coins but they are known for other years.
The "Bugs Bunny" occurred due to the die press mishap, and indeed it is named after the cartoon character. A mishap occurred when two working dies clashed with one another because a blank planchet was not between the two dies during the striking process. The obverse die's face was damaged with a partial imprint of the reverse die. After the clash occured, striking process continued. What resulted were coins that had the appearance of 'buck teeth' on Franklin's face around the mouth. Hence the term "Bugs Bunny".
... looks like NightHawk and I were answering around the same time... I sure wish they'd fix the forum's clock on here!
