Last week I finished my Mercury dime set. The last coin I needed was a 1921 D, bought it from my LCS. You can see the mint mark under a loupe, a little hard to tell from photos. I have all the dates and mints but I'm not finished with Mercury dimes yet... I can still upgrade a lot of the ones in lower grades and find the 1942/1 and 1945 micro S!
Nice! Merc's were the first set I completed, too. Started around 1969 and finished 20 years later, LOL. Congratulations, not an easy accomplishment.
Nice job. I just started my collection. While the 1942/41 is a bit pricy, the Micro S isn't too bad and can be found fairly easily. I paid $88 for this one.
Awesome. My only problem is I can't enjoy the collection without a magnifying glass. Which is why I'm on morgans now. Probably wont go any smaller than half dollars in the future.
Awesome job! The Mercury set was my first set. No, I still don't have that elusive '16 D or 42/1 but oh well. Looking back at the set it has some definitely cleaned coins, and others are more likely detailed from damage, but it was my first set and I just can't bring myself to upgrade it. Regardless, congrats! Now go on and find those broken nose, trumpet S, small and large mint mark varieties!
Due to inherited coins, I've got many sets that I would like to collect, but it's like trying to catch a fly ball in the sun. I don't know where to start. I really like your coin and I think I'm going to head that way to start, but, maybe I'll start with Walking Liberty Half Dollars, then again, maybe quarters. Oh well! You see the problem there is so many directions to go. I would like to finish one of them before I croak.
Kudos on completion of the set. If I were you, I would upgrade that 21-D to one with an easier to see D. I can remember passing on a G+ 21-D that the dealer wanted $20 for. After all these years, that's still one of my regrets. However, if I had bought it, I wouldn't still have it. C'est la vie!
Very nice! I can't imagine completing a set like that, so sending many congrats in your general direction. That is one of my favorite US coin designs. The Mercury dime was also one of the coins that sucked me into this hobby as a child. I still have a weakness for them. The only arguably noteworthy example that I possess is the 1942-D NGC MS 67 FB/CAC shown below. Since I love the coin's design so much, I wanted a very high grade example to gaze at once in a while. The grade and the price range on this one served that function well.
