First time searching half dollar rolls. Got 100 dollars worth. Have searched 8 rolls. No silver but I have found 8 clad S mint marks.
Question. Is this the usual and are the S mint marks worth keeping?

I wouldn't say it's usual, as the S-mint pieces were made exclusively for proof sets. More likely than not, some poor soul rolled up his Dad's old coins and cashed them in at the bank. They have a tiny bit of a premium over face value but not much.

Or a dealer just spent them. Some proof set dates you can buy and just sell off the cent at a premium and spend the rest. Usually the cent and half is the most in demand from proof sets, but who knows. 1970s proof sets exist in the millions over current demand. I probably have 3 or 4 of each year and have never bought one on purpose, just came with some large lots. I remember dealers having 40 - 60 of each year in stock in their store, paying maybe $1 for them unless it had a dollar coin, then it was $2. Heck, I have been given them in change at some coin stores before.
