Nice coins although did get off track there from the OP just a bit. Returning to that - as a kid about early 1970s I used to do yard work and saved up my money and occasionally would talk my parents into taking me to Oxnard,California where there was, I believe, "Kett's Coin Castle" and would occasionally buy some small items. One time they had these 2 and the 2 1/2 peso gold restrikes (I didn't know that then and the dealer was NOT pleasant or helpful). So I bought one each of the 2 and 2 1/2 peso little gold tiddlers and paid by recall $10 and $12.50 for each of them; still have them.
OMG, Oxnard (Not just another pretty name) and Kett's Koin Kastle!!! Old man Kett was a sour one. You probably went to the location close to five-points, not the new one on Wagonwheel
LOL, that is probably so. I just remember them being not too friendly. Not however compared to Gillio's in SB! LOL
I don’t see giving the bride a gold coin as being sexist but more like a life insurance type of thing incase something happened to the husband, the wife will have something to help feed the kids until something can be worked out.
In the last two years. I've won three of these cute little 2 peso coins in my coin club raffles. I find them attractive. Mine are probably AU but I've never bothered to grade them.
The Mexico Dos Pesos was the first gold coin that I ever purchased. I remember when I asked for it from the (now sadly deceased) owner of an LCS, he said "Ah! You're getting into gold!!" The price tag: $30. It seemed like so much money back then, especially for something so tiny. Shivers of irresponsibility surged through me, but I forged on. I still have it and have gradually purchased that whole series except for the giant 50 Pesos.
