I am in Florida for a couple of weeks and would like to ask if anybody has experience with this show? It's a 140 mile drive from where I am staying so want to make sure it is worth the drive, specially considering the FUN show is just a week+ or so later. EDIT and Ups! forgot to say I will travel back home before the FUN show starts, so the Lakeland show would be the only chance, but I still want to know if it is worth it due to the long drive. Thanks!
It's a twice a year show and I usually go both times since it's about 40 miles from me. It's fairly large but there are too many non-numismatic dealers for my taste. I have found some decent pieces there. Usually no big or national dealers there although West Coast Coins attended a couple of shows ago. But, given gas prices and the proximity to FUN, I won't be going to Lakeland. From what I've seen of your collecting interests as posted here, the distance and the price of gas I'd say you would not be satisfied with Lakeland. But if you're really jonesing for a show, I guess it might serve.
Thank you, @green18 , thank you @Publius2 for your opinions. Much appreciated. I think I'll just stay home and forego the show. To be honest, COVID is another reason why i'd rather not take any chances yet in a large venue full of people. I've noticed very few people wear masks here in SWFL....
Lakeland was the first show I went to after Covid restrictions lifted. That 1st one was REALLY well attended because there was so much demand for coins & so few shows had been running. Since then, I think most of the big sharks stopped hunting there.....so you still might find a few good deals.
It is fairly close for me so I will be attending it. I have gone to that show and not bought anything, but it is a chance to get to show, which is now rare for me. I actually enjoy the dealers who don't have coins. The postcard guy is always interesting. I've found a few pieces that I have used in coin displays. His prices are good so you can often find something of interest.
