and now It looks like I'm finaly gonna do a Peace dollar set after all these years of collecting... With one lil catch (not even a big one) Is going to be and ICG set Picked these up as a pair for 50 each... the 1925 isn't anything special.. but the 22 is what caught my eye in the 1st place... I am basicly new to this series so please bear with me so right off... I think the 1925 slightly Overgraded very pretty coin but not sure I would call it higher then MS61.. 62 tops... Now we get to the reason I jumped into a new series... as much as I think that 25 is over graded.. I think the 22 might just be undergraded... can't wait to get it in hand... Any opinions welcome.. I know the 21 and the 28 are the tough dates to fill but not much else about this series (yet... I see a new book being bought lol )
Good luck with the set. As far as the coins shown, they look about right for posted grades. The 25 has a nice clean cheek and very few marks just lacking brilliance. The 22 nice & bright would catch your eye.
Congrats and good luck on your new persuit. I tend to agree with your assessment of the '25. I'm not real familiar with the series either, so I don't know if there was a tendency towards weak strikes, but the '25 looks overgraded. I'm actually thinking it could be AU. Maybe even a 53. The '22 on the other hand looks nice and properly graded.
ICG is usually pretty accurate on peace dollars, and you can get good deals on coins in their slabs because some people write them off because they're not PCGS or NGC.
Nice coins. I'm doing a raw set. Down to the 21 and 28 and it'll be complete. Probably have to go graded for those two. Happy Hunting!
I own two of the key dates, 1921 and 1928: The only key date I’m missing is 1934-S, which is relatively difficult and expensive to acquire in higher grades. 1934-S is the “condition rarity” of the series.
