I have always wondered is it possible for a double die to have double machine doubling as well. I mean we always see double dies with no machine doubling or slight but only on one set of the doubles. Is it possible to have them on both?
Yes, see Ken Potters page and the 1969-S DDO-001 found in 2008 (I think) it was - that coin had both types of doubling.
Here is an example with both MDD and a DDR on one coin. This is from a reverse on a 69D Kennedy Half Dollar. Larry Nienaber
That is a nice example. For those who don't know the difference, the tops of those letters would be the machine doubling, and the notching at the bottoms of the letters would be the doubled die.
The 69 S that BH referred to had a little of everything going for it. Including a nice pricetag! Good to see you again Chuck.. Nice example. Atrox.
I think this is also a good example for why I like to use the term MDD (machine damage doubling) instead of MD (machine doubling). You can see from the attached photo how machine doubling can cause damage. Larry Nienaber
