After many years, I've finally completed my proof modern commemorative collection until the US Mint offers another proof commemorative coin. The last two coins that I needed were the 1984 US Olympic $10 gold P and D mints. Of course, sicne the program is ongoing, I've committed to contiue acquiring these coins. So, with those I have every proof commemorative coin with original packaging and COA since the inception of the program. Many of them were very difficult to acquire with the original packaging, especially the 1996 $5 gold coins. Have any of you found the pleasure of totally completing a set? Is so, please share your experiences.
WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought about starting a set of Half Dollar Comm's from 82-date but so far is hasn't gone any where much....maybe someday Speedy
Thats a Great Feat!! Congrats...perhaps you can shed some insight on where you have found some of the harder to get coins..like the Law Enforcement and Community Service...post some pics..my latest is the 2 coin $5 G Washington set prf and uncirc..see them on the US Modern Commem thread.. Congrats again!! RickieB
I have a buddy running for Sheriff....man would I like to get that one for him....but if I remember right its not cheap! Speedy
Yeah, maybe I'll pull them all out and take a picture of them. Good idea. The Law Enforcement and Community Service dollars I got from Chuck D'Ambra Coins, now Telesphere. I didn't realize it until several years later, but there was a huge scratch on the community service dollar. So, I traded up to a nicer flawless example at my local coin shop when he had one in stock. The hardest one to acquire was the Cauldron $5 gold with the original packaging. I've seen them around in the past, but at the time I was trying to get it, it wasn't available. But, eBay has helped tremendously. From 1999 on, I've been purchasing the coins directly from the Mint. So, I made out pretty good when I ordered the 2001 proof buffalo dollars for $33 a piece.
Modern Commems I have all of the silver one dollar proofs, and most of the two and three coin proof sets with gold. My collection, like yours is all original mint packing and COA's. I just accquired the Jackie Robinson 2 coin proof, $1 and $5 proof. This is a hard set to accquire, and getting harder all the time. Does anyone know what commemoratives are being issued for 2006?
Benjamin Franklin Commemorative Coin Act 108-464 dated January 20, 2004 Mintage not to continue past December 31, 2006 http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi...=108_cong_public_laws&docid=f:publ464.108.pdf Supposedly at this time there is some talk about the 2nd commemorative being for the Old San Francisco Mint.. we will see (i.e. new gold piece)
Congratulations that is something I have a ongoing project its the Australian Chinese new year coins so far I have 6 of the 12 with another due out around now LOL De Orc
The Jackie Robinson set was hard for me to get as well. I got a GREAT price on it from eBay, like around $400 for the proof gold last year. It was in the Legacy set with the card. I bought the two coin box seperate for around $5. I already had the proof dollar .
Congratulations kiyardo, it's a great feeling when the job is finally done. But then it will come to be that it has also created a "hole" that you will feel like filling. So start another set, I guess. Yes, I have completed several different denominations of coins. I'm working on one right now that will consist of a different Buffalo nickel from each of the 50 states. It will also have several of the holes fillled from such places as Japan, and Australia. Not quite finished with it yet. Still need two to finish the job.
All I want is the Buffalo 2 pcs. set for now, and thats a hard set to find!, good thing I have one set aside for me with a dealer.
Of all places it's Mass. and R.I. Have some feelers out and one or two prospects at the present time. The hard part is getting them in the right shade of Yellow. A nice honey color is what I'm going for on the entire set. Actually I didn't expect these to be that hard to find, so that shows you how much I know about it. Oh well, one of these days.
