That was my one and only too, and purchased from the mint as well. Given for what these items are going for in todays market, I didn't do too badly. That coin was the subject of one of my very first posts here on this forum, where I described the drama associated with purchasing this coin in the early hours of it's release by the mint. No "drama" associated with this series anymore.....
Sleeper Series... The reason they aren't largely collected is because it takes $3500 a year an amount most can't part with. A lot say they don't like them wouldn't collect them simply so they don't have to say they can't afford them. Wait and see what happens when the series is over. Some may even say the series is much more interesting than the Buffalo where the only change from year to year is one or two digits.
OMG I remember that morning and the all-out panic to get your order in before they sold out, what a mess! And, yes, given today's gold prices, they're now worth more than we paid in melt alone. Oddly, I didn't get through the first day. I ordered my UNC a day later and put in a backorder for a proof. Somebody's credit card got denied or something and poof! there I have one. As far as there not being any more drama, just wait until the Jackie Kennedy coin with a 15K max mintage. If you think the Jefferson Liberty ordering was a war zone, that will be Armageddon!
That is my one and only gold spouse as well, and I had a similar ordering experience. IMO, it is the most aesthetically pleasing of them all so far especially in the proof. There is a rumor that some of the early (2007) spouses were melted down, so who knows what the actual surviving mintage is for them. TC
