I just got this from the Bowers & Merena auction in Baltmore - I think it's one of the prettiest Indian cents I have in my collection! What are your thoughts?
Gorgeous Indian, again, but what else would I expect. I wanted to compare Todd's pictures to B&M's "new" pictures. Surprisingly, they actually compared fairly well - except for the scratches. Do you have a clue what Todd does to eliminate (or at least virtually eliminate) those scratches? That slab was in SAD, SAD shape.
Wow. Another beauty Charmy, thanks for sharing. I do have one question though, don't die cracks prevent a coin from grading higher than MS-67 not that I would agree with that rule if it does exist, but I seemto remember something along those lines.
I never heard that though it's possible (most likely depending on how a particular grader feels about die cracks), but I really like die cracks - they give the coin much more character and uniqueness.
Die cracks should not affect the technical grade. You want to examine the condition of the coin versus the condition when it was struck. Since it had the die cracks when struck, they do not affect the technical grade. They may increase or decrease the market price, depending on the feeling of the buyer, though. Nice coin, BTW.
Nice Indian. I was wondering about the color difference between the obv and rev. It's almost like Todd mixed up to different coins images from the two distinct colors. Or do you think this was one that was laying flat on a lined box or something like that?
My god Charmy I wish I had your coin budget! I believe there are none higher at that Grade from NGC. Congrats, it's breathtaking.
Yes, it completely depends on how the coin was stored, where it was stored or what it was stored on or in. Sometimes they tone two different colors way from laying in a wood drawer or in an album. Here's my 1877 that has very similar dual toning.
