I gave my bro a proof set years ago. He recently passed, so I got it back. It's a fresh 1981 Proof set with the TYPE 2 "S" minty marks. The mint marks are as clear as a bell, so I'm surmising from this web pic attached that I'm correct with a Type 2. Does anyone have experience/care to chime in on this topic? And perhaps a VALUE as well? Online sales go from $185 to >$400. Type 2. OLE!!!
The "S" you posted does not look like the Type 2 mint mark found on 1981-S coins. It looks like the Type 2 for 1979-S coins and the Type 1 for 81-S.
Sorry to hear your brother passed. You can compare your coin here. Let us know. Or post a close up photo of your coins mintmark. https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-c...-mint-marks-on-1979-1981-anthony-dollars.html https://www.usacoinbook.com/coins/3373/dollars/susan-b-anthony/1981-S/type-2-clear-s-proof/
I don't know a lot about mint marks, but the TYPE 1 mint mark looks like the "S" is on top of another mint mark. Maybe I need knew glasses. Thanks for showing us your coins.
Except, the 81-S T-2 is a bit larger than previous years, looks obvious to eye without any mag. Easy to spot from a distance.
