Would the rim damage on the obverse make this a details coin? Or would this come out as a clean Fine. s-l1600.jpg s-l1600 (1).jpg

I think it would get a details grade.

For 685 that's outta my spend mark. Trying to find a good 85 cc. Was hoping for a cheaper raw, but it looks like slabbed is about the same price. Best I found is 885 for an PCGS MS63. s-l1600 (2).jpg

$685 for the first one seems crazy, but I've been out of the Morgan market for a long time

Unfortunately 1885 CC are rare in any grade. IMO the first coin shown is a VG Details. If I were buying the graded MS63 is the better choice but your choice may different as you know your collection. It is extremely unlikely prices will go down much.
