Just wondering, how are you grading that 38-D Walker?

Not bad for ten cents.

 

Unfortunately I don't expect it would straight grade. The photos I posted are the sellers. If you look closely at the left arm/breast there is a scratch. Not really too noticeable in the photo but very prominent in hand. Although, otherwise I would have thought XF. What were your thoughts?

 

I have to admit, the mentioned scratch is almost unnoticeable. From the photo provided, I wouldn't consider it an issue at all. But I do agree, I would also grade the coin as XF, still a pretty nice 38-D.

I'll admit I've been thinking about of these for years.
One day I spotted one at a antique store, the place was busy and I had a important meeting.
I left figuring I'd go back the next day, well the place burned down overnight.
Last night I saw one on GC and put a bid on it and won.

Picked it up today for the type set. Graded as a G-4.

That's my cell phone #. I was hoping for a silver dollar or half-dollar of that date for many years but they're all too expensive these days.

 

A couple fairly new pick ups:

 

When I see those large notes from circa 1934, I always wonder two things: first, who could actually afford to save such a high denomination note from those days, (certainly no one in my family tree); and second, how much buying power has been lost from circa 1934 to today of that $500 note. it just makes me wonder.
What's your take?

 

From what I know, banks and businesses mostly. Easier and lighter to exchange currency that way instead of small denomination notes.
