Could use a rough value of this note. Also wondering what the best online source is for finding values.
Surprisingly, the only denomination issued by this Charter, is all $5 notes, both large and small. I’d guess this note is worth between $100-$200. For values, I use the Heritage Archives and search the charter number.
If I’m not mistaken, didn’t you find this note in circulation years ago? I seem to remember a poster saying a few years ago that they once found a National Bank Note in circulation.
National Notes were established by the National Banking Act of 1863 and were made from 1863 to 1929. They were issued by banks that received a charter from the US government allowing them to issue money — Charter number 357 is printed on the left and right side of the note. The notes were backed by bonds deposited with the US government. National Notes have four signatures — The Register of the Treasury and Treasurer of the United State on the top, and the Cashier and President of Governor of the bank on the bottom.
