    Hey folks,
Just purchased this GSA Morgan and was wondering what sort of grade you thought it would warrant. There is some chatter in the field in front of the face and on the cheek. The reverse is spectacular with just one vac mark to the left of the wing. Anyhow, input would be appreciated. I tried to take representative photos.

I have a nice Morgan but when graded with a pic like you obverse they said it may have been smoothed?? NG

I would be at MS-62 as well. The reverse is nice, but the side that makes the grade is the worst one. In this case, it's the obverse holding down the grade.

It might also have a nasty rim ding under the first 8. Hard to say for certain

No, that’s the little do-dad that holds the coin in the case.

Well, that’s I thought at first too. But my eyes are playing tricks on me:

It looks MS62 to me as well. Is it in an "Uncirculated Silver Dollar" holder? I'm just a little curious. I've no issue on the grade. They just didn't know what they were doing on a lot of these when they holdered them. You see them get MS grades all the time from out of simple "Silver Dollar" holders, is what I'm trying to say.

I am going to be the party pooper, and go MS 60. There are so many bagmarks on the obverse, it verges on lacking in eye appeal. Since those GSAs are considered uncirculated, I give it the minimum grade MS. Had it not been a GSA, I would have said details, as the obverse looks scratched with all those contact marks. The reverse is nice, but that obverse? Ouch!!

I though that as well but it's not in the correct spot based on the reverse images.

I have to agree with MS-60. Just too many marks.
    Great images.

Here are a couple more GSAs I purchased with the 1885. These are both 82cc so not as valuable. The first one is nicer than the second. It appears to have some mild “textile” toning where it was up against the bag.

I think its MS-61 Because its in A GSA but could see it MS-60 in A regular holder.

These two are nice. The 82cc coins are keepers—They look around MS 64,with a typical amount of contact marks. . Honestly, I can’t see purchasing the 85cc, unless it was very much below market price, as it is not attractive. I would flip the 85cc, and get my money out of it, as it is not a keeper at all.

MS62 is too generous for me...agree with 60 or 61 on the 85-CC

I agree with you 100%...except it's a CC. So, a "normal coin" I would say MS60...but because TPGs always tend to give these a CC bump I'm going to call it a MS61.

Since the '85-CC is in a GSA holder, I agree with a couple of others, I'd also call it a MS-61. The obverse is a deal breaker as far as being a keeper. As a raw coin, likewise, I'd say a MS-60.
