This little lady came in today's mail and is my first Cameo seated dime. Total (proof) mintage 700 DESIGNER: James Barton Longacre EDGE: Reeded DIAMETER: 17.90 millimeters WEIGHT: 2.50 grams MINTAGE: 700 MINT: Philadelphia METAL: 90% Silver, 10% Copper AUCTION RECORD: $8,050 • PR67 • 07-07-2006 • Heritage Auctions Cheers
I'm really becoming infatuated with 19th century proofs. I've got a pretty nice dime collection but none of the above. Congrats!
Thank you LakeEffect. I feel the same way lately, 3 of my last 5 coin purchases have been seated dime proofs
These are one of those types which defy logic and back how popularity, not mintage, factors into coin collecting. As a Seated dime collector, I've seen many of the proofs selling for far less than an MS of a similar grade of the same year.
I agree it defies logic lol. I couldn't believe it myself. I'll take the proofs all day or as long as they remain relatively cheap in comparison
Nice coin. Here's the 1879 proof that I'm about to part with at GC. It has a nice blue toning. I really wanted to keep it but need the money to complete my slabbed IHC set.
