Hey all. So I'm here in North Chicago after just watching my son graduate the Navy. I got him some challenge coins but neither of us is sure which one he needs to carry, lol. We both are pretty sure it isn't the home state coin and are almost positive it's the Division Coin he should carry. So my question is which one should he carry to get to skip the crap tasks and not have to buy rounds? or does it even matter which one? Lol Or should I order a USS Green Bay ship coin? Lol
Now I’m not sayin’ ... I’m just sayin’. For ME ... it’s always just been a generic NAVY Challenge Coin. I’ve never had or been given any issue. As a general statement of political wisecrackery ... I’ve used this coin for the past year or so. ... Never any problemmos (and I’m not even Jewish) [not that there’s anything wrong with that].
GLTC. I do not think that Challenge piece was restricted to Cadre. Dyno can clarify, though. Cadre pieces usually have Unit designation. Sea privilege has not been achieved, if just graduating, so....no for that piece. Oklahoma? I did not know the Comanche had a Navy. Sooooo, no.
My "ship" in boot was the USS Lincoln. I think the USS Constitution would be most appropriate given the connection. Your son will receive many challenge coins though out his career and he can choose the one with the most meaning to him. My fav was the coin given to me by my command Master Chief. All the best to your son. Is he going to A school? PS Thanks for the flash back to boot camp. Arrived in JAN just in time for the Illinois winter. Froze my butt off.
Yeah he reports back for A school Sunday @ 20:00. It's been awhile since I've been to Chicago but I don't remember it ever being this warm, it hit 79° today. After A school he leaves for Japan to serve on the USS Green Bay.
Awesome to hear about your son! Challenge coins eventually brought me to the hobby. A fun way to look back over the years.
I'm not sure what's up with the Oklahoma challenge coin, it seems kinda out of place to me too, lol. I bought all 3 on base after the graduation. I just gave them his name and division and they laid these three coins out in front of me and said they were "his associated challenge coins". The Oklahoma coin was his home state, USS Constitution coin was his barracks and the 197/198 coin was his division.
