What an awesome site! Never heard of it before. I love animals on coins so this is like a treat.

I do, I do...but more the African variety...not so much the indian/Asian. I read once that African elephants aren't trainable, at least in a trustworthy, domestic sense...reason why circus and other elephants used for domestic purposes are only of the Indian/Asian variety. Was watching an old Tarzan movie the other night and had to laugh at the fake African ears (extended prosthesis) attached to the ears on the bulbous Indian elephant's heads, along with fake tusks that you could see dangling/moving back/forth, to simulate the African variety in Tarzan's jungle. A couple of Indian/Asian elephants in this nice collection but most are African...of/from African sources, etc.

Iranian piece. Either an elephant or the very elusive straight tailed variety piggus gigantus.

Hiddendragon...I had no idea you had so many elephant coins. I knew of all your bear coins.

Looks like it's in the garland on the obverse.

I forgot I had this one, gift from my late father-in-law over 20 years ago. I love the original Thai 2x2 in the king's yellow.

I have a lot of bear and turtle coins. Not as many elephants but I'm working on it.
