Elephants have around 150,000 muscle units in their trunk. Their trunks are perhaps the most sensitive organ found in any mammal - Asian elephants have been seen to pick up a peanut, shell it, blow the shell out and eat the nut. Elephants use their trunks to suck up water to drink – it can contain up to 8 litres of water. They also use their trunks as a snorkel when swimming. (from WWF)

I love animal themed coins and exonumia - especially the older stuff. What about you? Here are just a very few of my favorites. Please share yours! (1931 International Colonial Exposition in France, Asia Pavilion Bronze Medal and 1944 Belgian Congo 50 Francs Silver - Pretoria Mint, South Africa - note the reopening of the uranium mines during WW2 led to some nice lower denomination elephant coins also being minted at the US Mint in Philadelphia for Belgian Congo).

Normally, I like coin designs with a lot of detail, but something about the simplicity of that 1944 50 Franc coin that I really enjoy. Just the date and an elephant. Thanks for the post.
