I'd say it depends why you want them graded, if you want them graded to increase resale value, probably not worth it and you'd be best off going with PCGS (or maybe ANACS if they have interesting VAM attributions). I get coins graded sometimes out of curiosity, to conserve them, to verify authenticity and to see how my coin education is going in terms of assessing things - I like ICG and they have a CoinTalk special that is $10 per US coin (you just write "CoinTalk special" and your username on the form). Of course shipping and insurance are additional - as is Conservation if you want it, but that's optional. It's also simple to submit to ICG, you don't have to join an organization or jump through any hoops which I appreciate and despite the naysayers, I've found their grades for US Coins to be conservative and accurate - plus turnaround is about 3 weeks. I'm still learning how to identify lightly cleaned coins, which they have helped me a lot with. I submitted 2 Standing Liberty Quarters that I thought were both MS and maybe Full Head - I looked at them under magnification and have been collecting SLQs for a few years. One came back AU53 cleaned, the other MS63 Full Head. I look at those a lot for pointers in the context of other raw coins.
Thanks for the reply. It would be mostly for curiosity as they were handed down, not bought and I will continue that tradition.
I’m hoping to do that with my Morgan as well. Has been a family coin and that is where the value is for me.
