Acquired this piece about a week ago. Low mintage, first year coin. Not a bad looking coin. Sellers photos as mine did not look as good. The American twenty-cent piece is a coin struck from 1875 to 1878, but only for collectors in the final two years. Proposed by Nevada Senator John P. Jones, it proved a failure due to confusion with the quarter, to which it was close in both size and value. DESIGNER: William Barber EDGE: Plain DIAMETER: 22.00 millimeters WEIGHT: 5.00 grams MINTAGE: 36,910 MINT: Philadelphia METAL: 90% Silver, 10% Copper AUCTION RECORD: $43,200 • MS67 • 08-09-2020 • Heritage Auctions Please post any 20 cent pieces you may have. @Eric the Red . Absolutely gorgeous coin! I've been dying to find one Metal Detecting or buy one online. Thanks for sharing!!
That is a very nice 20-center and a very nice date to top it off. I have a considerably more modest, and also far easier to acquire, example of that type, the 1875-S, with a mintage of 1,155,000 compared to the 1875's mere 38,500. PCGS called this one an XF40:
It is a very attractive coin and nice find on 75 Plain. Much tougher to find than the 75-CC but doesn't sell for as much because it lacks the magical mintmark. The Philly double dimes offer good value.
Now that you mention it. Here is an 1875-CC. It's resides in my type set. It's wonderful seeing all the examples shown. The photo was not taken by me, I'm not that good of a photographer. It's NGC graded AU-58.
I have to give credit to my son @AidenAlexander He located this one for his dad to purchase lol. Good job son
very nice example, Eric. great patina. Tall Paul's 75cc is amazing! Mine is a humble Fine. will post when I get home later.
This coin has very nice color (mostly blue) when tilted under a light. The person I bought it from had originally purchased it from Mark Feld when he was a dealer.
