Toning. I'm not a World coin collector but that's what it Looks like. The out part is Nickel Brass while the inside part is Nickel-plated non-ferrous alloy. Anyone else??
Hey Justyn. I haven't seen any 1£ coins recently, so haven't a clue what others look like. Could it be damage from the equipment that puts the two together? Something that roughed the area up so it tones differently? It really does look like someone just used a magic marker to draw that on. LOL When you say you did a light clean, what did you do? Have you tried soaking it in acetone to see if it will remove the discoloration? I would. Be sure to let us know the outcome when you discover it.
Soaked the bad boy in acetone for 3 mins and the black mark disappeared spent the bugger on a stubby bottle of Budweiser
Oh great now you made me want an angry orchard hard apple cider 5 % alcohol drink (6-pack). grrrrr tomorrow
