here's a question ... let's say you have a stunning GEM note with deep embossing excellent paper quality perfect margins great color ... but it has a soft fold in the middle that hardly noticable ... so we think it would grade a A.U. 58 EPQ... right? Say there's another note that's crisp but has really crappy margins ... that might be a Ch. CU 63 ... right I would probably pay more for the 1st note than the 2nd ... How many agree? I guess that shows how a strict grading scale might not reflect all the nuances of currency grading.
I can see scenarios where I'd rather have the lower graded note over the higher one yes. And not to bring this up again that parallels coins with the "slider". What's the point here in this topic?
I was talking to some of my Mpc buddies who are very knowledgeable And they havent heard of this term either? Not that it doesnt exist But in my world (Mpc) It seems to me non existent, The reason Maybe older notes had a more primitive printing system causing the notes To have very uneven margins! I know fractionals were actually cut by hand!
thanks for posting that ... yes, this is the 2nd example i've seen of CGA grading higher than PMG ... I think all this evidence proves is no one really knows what "true grade" should be assigned to a given note. It's all a big cr@p shoot. As a newbie to the field of currency collecting ... it certainly will cause me to bid a lot less for any TPG note. (and bid less for almost any note I see) Thanks again to everyone for all your input!
You just have to know the Tpg who,s grading your notes!! Ive been doing PCGS notes for a very long time and am Always confeident in what iam buying from them!!
Imagine if coins had s/n # I mean there is a whole crackout game that's played so they get submitted many many times with some coins. If they did have them you'd probably be able to show 4 or 5 different grades of pictures
I agree with Duke, I have bought slider coins & notes of lower grade because of "Eye Appeal" rather then grade and price. You should buy what looks good to you and then look at the grade & price and compare.Their are more variables then having a high grade (IMHO).Trust your own instinct not the graders .
If I've said it once, I've said it XXX times. If you want to de-value your collection by 50%, just send them all over to CGX for grading!!! Regardless of their "new ownership", the damage done thanks to Jess. BTW, just check out the haps between Jess and the new CGX owner below. Integrity is everything.. http://www.keycurrency.com/badgrade/
I have added many many many more like the above, and I'm not done. Next Friday is important to the case. Stay tuned!!!! Vinny
Looking forward to the update Vinny. Thanks. Guys & Gals, there is a lot riding on this in terms of the future integrity of the hobby. Collectables will always be a bit slimmy and will always tend to attract the con artists and slime balls but let's hope a precident will finally be established.
