Sounds like you made a pretty good deal (just a little bit above current melt value). If these are uncirculated, I would never consider them to be just bullion coins. Post some pics of these would be MS67's. TC
I'd vote not worth the time, effort and expense to slab at this time. Better to just put them up in some kointainers or other archival protective tubes and stash them away. But you could also probably flip them already for a better return.:hammer:
Personally, I have had a gut feeling for a while now, that Ikes will be worth a whole lot more in BU or better condition in the next few years. You could always wait and see. The weight of these fellows are so cool. I doubt the Treasury will always make them (I am referring to the clads mostly). Yet, with silver, wow, lucky you. Since the vending machines, stamp machines, car washes, etc, do not take halves, AND because there are so many state quarters out there, I would keep any pretty half dollar I could locate (especially those in mint state). We needed money a while back and I sorted out rolls of halves before spending them, and it just did not feel right. In fact, the folks behind me in line were all pulling out their green stuff to make an exchange before the cashier could get them. I coupled those events with the fact that I just did not feel right about it, and decided to try to honor my feelings. I phoned my dad, asking for guidance, he agreed that in worn and circulated condition that the clads were worth only face. That did not seem to help the feeling that I was letting go something of value. To add to the topic, Dad, admitted that he has paid a little premium for clads on occasion.
I'm a bit confused on this one, they don't make Ikes anymore, not since 1978. I would have loved to get Ikes at that price! I'd put them in 2X2's to keep them from damaging each other in the rolls, I bet they are worth more than melt, and I think they'll increase in value even more, last large dollar coin.
If you bought them in rolls, I seriously (very seriously) doubt there are any MS-67's in there. First someone put them in the rolls and no one in their right mind will put a '67 in a roll and secondly, even a little tishy-wishy mark will make a MS-67 become a MS-63. They are bullion - especially in rolls. In addition, you don't have the original blue envelopes and they're no longer in the cellophane. Enjoy them. I'm sure they're very pretty.
Ikes are notorious for weak strikes, very few actually get MS grade, even after they were just released from the mint. And now were talking 30 years since the mint. Do the math, figure out the damage, theyre only bullion.
