well evidently the poll only lets you make one choice, I was trying to choose all of them. The first one I like that northern lights look, the second one I like that style of toning more so than the others, between the two I would probably go more for the second one, just because It is the first time I have heard of the doubled eye, and it is noticeable without magnification.

If I had my choices it would start with # 4 then #5 -#2 -#1- and # 3 being last. I like complete tonning not just in parts or sides. Blast white is always a favorite. ... then by tonning each one being judged by my eye appeal. Thats my 2 cents......:smile

Maybe your cleanest coin here is #1, but I am not a fan of the colors. After that, #5 is fairly clean, nicely struck and pleasing colors.

Well, I am voting for #1. I like the blue tinge to the toning a lot. Number 2 is a bit too dark for me and 3 is nice but it has a smudge on the obverse (I don't think it's a fingerprint but that is what it reminds me of). 5 is also nice but the mark on Tom's cheek is a bit too much. My first reaction was No. 1 is my favorite and I'm sticking with it.
All very nice by the way.:hail:

I picked #1. It's toning seems subtle and very pleasing to me. Also, I'm basically a "raw" guy and would be very happy indeed if I came upon this coin in a dealers display case.

Once again. Forgive an amateur jumping in.

    I chose #2.

I like the ring of red around #2. But if #3 were all-over toned like it's upper left corner, then wow. That would be the most awesome coin ever, for me.

Now that I know what 5FS etc. means, what does 'doubled eye' mean?
I see the detail picture in the Red Book, but what am I looking for?
(it doesn't explain enough for beginners)

    Thanks.

Do you agree with the grade? That nick on the cheek is drawing my attention to it and it is hard to even looka t the obverse without glancing back at that nick. Perhaps it is worthy of the hefty grade... but a Star?? really?
They are all awesome coins, and I voted for coin #2
I am really just fond of the toning, it has a nice clean Obverse, but is that damage right in the middle of the coin on the reverse? On the building?
The reverse on that one seems to have the best strike on the reverse than all of them.

I agree, if #3 were toned over the entire surface, it would certainly be a monster.

The "doubled eye" is a doubled die on the obverse of Jefferson's eye. Take a look at these close up photos of both of the "doubled eye" nickels in this thread.

The doubling is very prominent and should be pretty easy to see once you know what to look for.

I was waiting for someone to point that out. I do indeed think the coin is over-graded and no way does it deserve the star designation. My rankings of these five coins has #5 solidly at the bottom. While I love the toning of #2, it just can't overcome the rarity of #4 which has a total population of 3/0.

I picked #2 for the color, variety, and FS designation.

  16. I like them all but #5 has a nice subtle rainbow toning that is striking to me and is my favorite followed by #4 (love that clean bright white). TC
