For that money I would have gotten a cheap plane ticket to NM, rented a car and drove the GSD back to MN myself. I thought black Shepards are Polish, white Shepards American, and sheps with black spotted tongues are Czech.
Yes, Google translate! I'm not sure if it got that smaller one right since the stamp wasn't very clear. Seems intriguing!
The Google Lens translation is correct. The smaller stamp is a reminder to the recipient to disinfect the exterior packaging of international mail.
I'm lucky with my dogs. We live a mile down a dirt road, and we have recovered over 10 dogs on the road over the past 12 years. We adopted all but one. We always taken them to the vet and have them checked out and given all their shots. The one we did not keep was taken to the county animal shelter. We asked them to call us if he was not adopted in a month. We got a call from the animal shelter the next day and were told the he had been adopted by a retired couple whose pet had just passed. Dogs are my first love, my wife is my second love, and our 11 grandchildren are our next love. We now have 2 chiweenies (2 years old, a wire terrier (15 years old), and lastly, our Australian Shepherd just had his first birthday, cake and all. My wife and I are in our 70's, so we hope we live long enough to take care of them. I almost forgot what I was going to say. I bought a couple gold coins from the Mint recently. I got them within a couple of days of their notification. My question is, I thought they required a signature if it was over a certain amount. Anything to do with COVID?
The package has cooties . Seriously, I wonder how it got so far off track? Per the signature thing, it was part of covid. They're still not great about it, to my chagrin. I have to nag my (decent) carrier. Since USPS tracking is pretty useless, I put out the signature card (with when I want it delivered) out before the package arrives. I have a small stack of them, but he usually gives me back the generic one and I've been reusing that. I could care less about the signature. I just don't want records and other things sitting outside.
I wonder if Germany to the USA via China sets some kind of record for misdirected mail! I guess I'm lucky that nobody in the Chinese postal system wherever it ended up collects Roman Republican coins. (Although I admit that the envelope and its contents show no signs of having been opened or otherwise disturbed.) For once, I'm pretty sure this isn't the fault of the USPS; it seems to me that it's Deutsche Post that screwed up. I don't think the envelope was ever in the USA until the other day. So much for the vaunted German efficiency! I've had bad experiences with Deutsche Post before, especially with German dealers who don't seem able to comprehend the difference between sending something via Deutsche Post international mail, which seems to essentially = "DHL," and sending it via DHL Express. Even though they're the same underlying entity, they're very different things! As in, the difference between several weeks or more, and a few days. I sent Künker a copy of the envelope and asked them to try to look into what happened, but am not expecting much. They have not been responsive in general to my inquiries over the last six weeks.
I've just spent five minutes pointing the Google Translate app on my phone at those stamps, and reading the various translations that come up. It's really, really trippy. But a scan of the larger stamp yields this translation: Machine translation has come a long, long way. I LOVE living in the future...
I have a envelope coming with tracking from China, Paid March 8, arrived in the US on April 4 and then nothing since then. It's lost i'm sure
Yes, it doesn't seem that long ago that machine translations of everything but maybe French and Spanish often yielded what seemed like gibberish.
If you have a tracking number, you might want to file a missing mail inquiry with the USPS, option 2: https://www.usps.com/help/missing-mail.htm
This is a little off-topic, but I hate to make a new thread just to ask a simple question: As a US collector based in Chicago, how long should I expect for a Vcoins order from Europe? Specifically looking at some items from Tom Vossen in The Netherlands, his shipping is described as "Registered and insured with tracking number, worldwide" with no specific carrier info.
I ordered an owl from Tom Vossen last month. It was shipped April 29th and arrived at my address in California on May 13th. The shipment was through Deutsche Post, registered mail.
Grrr, judging by what time the mail came Saturday, my regular postman must be off. I had pre-signed for my record package, with the desired delivery day. I saw a pink sheet in my mailbox, but thought it was that sheet being stored and didn't look at it. It was a delivery attempt last week, iwth a new, unsigned sheet. I think they keep it two weeks, but still is annoying that I didn't have the Memorial Day weekend to dub the records. It's a reminder of why I semi-retired from that hobby and went back to coins. Records are an aggravation.
