Trying to find the poop on this one. My sense is that it may be a gaming token of some sort. However, its obverse is very close to that of several Civil War era sutler tokens. I don't remember the exact metrology, but it's smaller than a small cent and appears to be made of brass. As I remember it is a few grains heavier than a bronze small cent. There was a Commodore Bainbridge in the War of 1812. Could this be a medalet in his honor? A game piece for a military game? Thoughts?
Could be, but I really think that the stars formed a full circle. If so, it looks like there were 15 of them. Kind of resembles the reverse of this: http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1138&Lot_No=10712#Photo And these: http://www.stacks.com/lotdetail.aspx?lsid=AN00000754&asid=AN00000297&lrid=AN00159397&side=R http://www.stacks.com/lotdetail.aspx?lsid=AN00000568&asid=AN00000068&lrid=AN00030362&side=O
ARguy, I think your token is unique. I'm unable to locate the exact speciman, but will continue to search. I would suggest that you post the token on the treasure depot forum... you can PM me for link, they are experts in civil war era, coins & relics.
