Almost a hundred notes must have been some package. I hope they were insured. Better yet, I just hope they turn up undamaged.
I do not know the value of collector currency but the USPS insurance limit is $5000. Best of luck trying to collect.
If it was declared currency, I'm not sure how they insure that. I know that my local UPS Store won't ship anything labeled as coins or currency.
I get closer to 200 on that list. These will easily be passed off in local coin shows where they'll transact under the radar, I'm thinking.
USPS is usually pretty reliable, however with the influx of new carriers you never know what you’re getting, I have 4 different carriers on my route and there all new.
Hope its just lost and they find it. My carrier keeps changing too. Been at the same address for nearly 30 years and can count on one hand the ones that were reliable and still have 4 digits left. Sad commentary on the USPS.
I am always afraid to mail anything of value. I bought coins from the mint 15 years ago for my grandkids. Never opened the boxes just wrapped them up and gave them to the kids. All 3 opened up the boxes and the mint packages were there but no coins. After further examination, you could see where the perpetrator had carefully taped over the original tape so you couldn't tell it had been tampered with. Hated mailing anything since and have broken up packages and mailed them separately days apart in an attempt to avoid losing it all in one fell swoop.
Yes. Considering the exceptionally high value involved, why not just make a trip and personally hand deliver the notes yourself? Or meet up halfway. That way neither party has to worry about such a loss potentially happening. People are just too dependent and accustomed to using third-party carriers.
