I know that some early wheats are notorious for week details due to the minting process. My question is what years are more prone to weak details than other years.
In rough order, 26-S, 24-S, 23-S, 25-S, 24-D, 20-S, 27-S, 26-D, 25-D, 28-S, and some of the late teen MM's. Also, 14-D's are not well struck, but not as poor as the afore mentioned, and 22-D's are all over the map.
There was a big discussion about it here about 6 months ago. I do not remember much to help find it, but GDJMSP posted a picture marked up to show wear and weak strike. From what I remember, the big difference was that both involved a color change, but the weak strike was lighter. However, the biggest keys are experience.
