First off I want to say hello to everyone, my name is Jeff. I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I am glad I found CoinTalk!

I am sending a gold coin in to PCGS to be graded for the first time. I am finding this submission form to be a little confusing. I am looking at the Return Shipping right now and it says PCGS returns all coins via Registered Mail, but on the Alternate Return Carrier box on the submission for they have a few boxes that you can check. Can I simply check the "Priorty" box and have the shipping returned at the Priorty rates? I think I can but I just want to verify.

Also, when packaging my coins to be sent to PCGS, do they mind you folding the submission forms to allow for smaller packaging?

Again this is my first time sending a coin off, so I am a bit lost.... any input/tips would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum! For (1) I believe the answer is yes and I know (2) is yes since I have never sent in a box big enough to where I did not have to fold the form. Plus - don't worry PCGS will contact you with any questions or you can just call them. I know they called my father once when he forgot to check something, can't remember what it was. Good Luck on your submission.

Thanks for the reply Mark. I am just going to send a check for shipping based on the chart they provide on the submission form based on the my declared value. I am trying to get my 1909 Quarter Eagle Indian Head graded while PCGS still has the free gold coin submission(less than $3000) as the collectors club special. Hopefully everything will work out with my submission! Being the first time I guess I am a bit overwhelmed...

I took advantage of the club "special" and was pleasantly surprised - my St. Gaudens came back MS62, I thought AU would be a stretch. I know they will require a signature for the return and the security of registered is nice to rely on but not required.

I don't know why since I have never really had a problem when submitting coins, but I also get that edgy feeling every time I submit. :) So far everything has been fine with PCGS and NGC.

I am expecting mine to be AU, if it comes back any better than that I will probably do a backflip. I have another 1912 Quarter Eagle that I am going to send that should get MS62 or better. Which bring me to another question. If I send a coin off for the regular service level, which costs $30 and the max coin value is $3000. What happens if the coin grades out at a value over $3000? Do they let you know that you should change to the express service level, which costs $50 and has a $20000 max coin value? Or is it better to just go ahead and pay for the express, and keep your fingers crossed?
