Is this a large date or small date? I have watched videos on how to determine but I can't seem to catch on. Help me figure this out anyone?
So I must ask.. Are you looking for the Ultra Rare Copper 1982 D mint mark with small date? Only 2 have ever been found. I don't think another will ever be found. You will drive yourself crazy looking for another! There are tons of threads here on CoinTalk of members who thought they did but every single one was wrong.
I am lol. So you're saying I should move on to other coins huh? I had high Hope's of finding one, it's also my birth year
The chances of finding a 3rd example is astronomical. Sorry. You can still look but don't make it your main search.
That question can be answered so many different ways. First I recommend you learn the minting process. Google How coins are minted. Then find reference sites that explain what mint errors are. BTW.. There are errors and also varieties. Big difference!
That's great. I definitely appreciate your info. And the time to share it. Thank you so much. When you refer to the minting process do you mean which mint the coins come from?
If you find something that looks like a Doubled Die, here's another site I find helpful: http://www.varietyvista.com/index.htm
welcome to coin Talk. Don't worry about not finding that RARE coin. 99% of us on Coin talk as kids hunted for that ultra rare 1943 copper cent and never found it. So we just moved on to other hunts and dreams. Goodluck on your searches.
I would recommend a date and mint mark set. Save the nicest coin you can find of each different date and mint mark combination. Folders to store your new collection are inexpensive. If you're trying to get rich searching pocket change, forget that idea. You're facing lotto type odds. If it was easy, we would all be be sitting on the beach Right now, instead of answering questions.
Main reason many of us collect is because we have fun. If you don't, it's too much like a job. LOL Enjoy!
